Project: The TOMS Animal Initiative, Wild Aid, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

Location: Chengdu, China

TOMS brand is already known for its philanthropic slogan of One For One, where every pair of shoes sold is matched with a pair given to charity. But did you know that they go above and beyond that? In addition to One For One, they also sell specific designs with portions of the proceeds donated to help solve serious issues around the world. Their primary focus rotates, but is often related to water shortages or healthcare needs in undeveloped and rural areas. A less often advertised facet of Toms charity is The TOMS Animal Initiative. This initiative began in 2014 with a partnership with the Virunga National Park to fund mountain gorilla conservation. With every new partnership comes a new set of related designs, retiring the previous designs. So, if you see a pair you like, make sure to get them while they're still available!

This years Animal Initiative partnership is with Wild Aid and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Wild Aid is a conservation organization which specializes in ending illegal wildlife trade through the use of celebrity endorsed advertisement campaigns. Chengdu Research Base is the hub for conservation and research on giant pandas. Together, these groups are focusing on raising awareness on how protecting giant pandas is vital to protecting the thousands of other animals and plants sharing the same habitat. By saving this charismatic species, we can save many more species!

As part of the awareness campaign, the funds from The Toms Animal Initiative will be targeting to the distribution of environmental education materials to students located nearby areas of giant panda habitat. Two selected teenage students will be allowed an additional opportunity of a panda caretaker internship!

Remember, The TOMS Animal Initiative rotates to support new projects so these shoes are available for a limited time only!
